Chapta

Terms of Use

Last updated: 7 September 2026

1. Who these terms are between

These terms are an agreement between you and Chapta, Inc., a Delaware corporation with offices at 800 N King Street, Suite 304-2783, Wilmington, DE 19801, United States ("Chapta", "we", "us").

They cover the Chapta iOS app, the Chapta Android app and the Chapta website — together, "Chapta".

The Chapta Telegram Mini App is a separate service with its own terms and its own privacy notice. If you use both, they share one account, and deleting your account deletes it everywhere.

2. Accepting these terms

By creating an account you accept these terms and our Privacy Policy. If you do not accept them, do not use Chapta.

Our Community Guidelines are part of these terms. So is any additional term we present to you for a specific feature.

The Community Guidelines are incorporated as rules of conduct. Where they describe how we operate — what we aim for, how quickly we try to act — those are goals, not contractual commitments, and section 6 of these terms governs.

3. Who can use Chapta

You must be at least 13 years old to use Chapta. If you are under 18, you may only use Chapta with the involvement of a parent or guardian, and you should not arrange to meet another reader without one.

If we learn that an account belongs to someone under 13, we will close it and delete the information we hold about them.

Chapta is not available to anyone we have previously removed.

4. Your account

You create an account by signing in with Telegram, Google or Apple.

You are responsible for what happens on your account and for keeping access to it secure. Tell us promptly if you think someone else is using it.

Use your own identity. One person, one account.

Disconnecting a sign-in. You can disconnect Telegram, Google or Apple from your account in Profile → Settings → Sign-in methods, provided at least one other way to sign in remains.

Deleting your account. You can delete your account at any time from Profile → Settings → Delete Account. Deletion is immediate and irreversible — there is no deactivated state and no waiting period.

What is removed and what is kept is described in our Privacy Policy.

5. What Chapta is — and what it is not

Chapta helps readers find each other and exchange physical books. We provide the place where you find each other and the tools to arrange a swap.

We are not a party to any swap. Any arrangement you reach with another reader is directly between the two of you. Chapta is not a party to it, is not your agent or broker, does not hold or escrow anything, and does not insure it.

We do not own, possess, ship, store, inspect, authenticate, appraise, or guarantee any book listed on Chapta. We do not verify any reader's identity, background, criminal history, or the truth of anything they say about themselves or a book. We do not check that anyone will turn up.

Your relationship with any other reader is strictly with that reader. What happens between you and another reader is not our responsibility — inside Chapta, elsewhere online, or in person. We make no representations or warranties about any communication, exchange, interaction, dispute or relationship of any kind between you and another reader.

We may show you readers and books we think you will like, based on what you have listed and swapped. That is a suggestion. It is not a recommendation of a person, a vouching for them, or a statement that they are safe to meet.

6. Content and behaviour we do not allow

We have zero tolerance for objectionable content and for abusive users.

You may not use Chapta to post, send or share:

You also may not: create a second account after we have removed yours; scrape or harvest data from Chapta; interfere with or attempt to break our systems; reverse engineer Chapta or try to extract its source code; bypass or interfere with any security, rate limit, filter or moderation control; use Chapta to distribute scanned, pirated or counterfeit books; or use Chapta for any commercial purpose other than swapping your own books.

When we become aware of content that breaks these rules, it is removed, and accounts that post it lose access to Chapta. For the most serious categories — content that sexualises, endangers or exploits a minor, credible threats of violence, organised fraud, and creating a new account after we have removed yours — we remove accounts without warning.

Beyond that, we may, but are not obliged to, monitor, review, filter, remove or restrict any content or account, for any reason or for no reason. Nothing in these terms obliges us to review any report, or any content, within any particular period of time. Our Community Guidelines describe how reporting and blocking work and what we aim for.

7. Copyright and other intellectual property

If you believe content on Chapta infringes your copyright, send a notice to our designated agent:

Copyright Agent, Chapta, Inc. 800 N King Street, Suite 304-2783, Wilmington, DE 19801, United States Telephone: (302) 455-7812 Email: support@chapta.space

Your notice must include: your signature; identification of the work; identification of the material you say infringes it and where it is on Chapta; your contact details; a statement that you believe in good faith the use is not authorised; and a statement, under penalty of perjury, that the information is accurate and you are authorised to act.

If we remove your content under this section we will tell you, and we will pass on the notice and the sender's contact details so that you can respond. You may send a counter-notice. We terminate the accounts of repeat infringers in appropriate circumstances.

Chapta's own name, logo, design and software belong to us. These terms do not give you any right to them.

8. Meeting other readers in person

PLEASE READ THIS SECTION CAREFULLY. IT AFFECTS YOUR LEGAL RIGHTS.

Chapta involves meeting people you do not know in order to exchange a physical book.

You are solely responsible for taking all necessary precautions when interacting with other readers, particularly when meeting someone in person for the first time.

You acknowledge that meeting a stranger carries inherent risks, including the risk of theft, fraud, harassment, illness, bodily injury, disability and death. You assume the entire risk arising out of your use of Chapta and any interaction you have with another reader, whether in person or online.

Chapta does not conduct criminal background checks on readers and does not verify any reader's identity or statements. You are solely responsible for determining the identity and suitability of anyone you interact with.

If we ever suggest, list, or partner on a meeting place, we do not independently verify the conditions at any such place, do not monitor it, and do not warrant its safety or condition.

Our Community Guidelines contain suggestions for meeting safely. They are suggestions. They are not a safety system, and following them does not make a meeting safe.

Release. To the fullest extent permitted by law, you release Chapta and its officers, directors, employees and agents from any claim, demand, damage or loss of any kind arising out of or connected with any interaction or dispute between you and another reader, or with any book. This release does not apply to liability for death or personal injury caused by our own negligence, our gross negligence, our willful misconduct, our fraud, or anything else that cannot lawfully be released.

9. Swapping books

What you and another reader agree is yours to agree and yours to keep.

We do not verify the condition, edition, ownership or authenticity of any book. We do not arrange delivery. We cannot recover a book, reverse a swap, or compensate you for one that went wrong.

Disputes between readers. If a swap goes wrong, try to resolve it with the other reader first. If you cannot, report it and we will look at whether our Community Guidelines were broken — for example, whether a book's condition was described deliberately falsely. We will act on our own rules. We will not decide who is right, order anyone to do anything, or settle any legal question between you.

10. What you post

You keep ownership of everything you put into Chapta — your listings, your notes, your photos, your messages, your ratings. We do not own them.

You give us permission — a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free, sublicensable licence (in plain terms: we can store and show your content in order to run Chapta, and we do not pay you for it — you still own it) — to host, store, copy, resize, reformat, translate, display and distribute that content, for the limited purpose of operating, developing and improving Chapta, and subject to your account settings, your privacy settings, and the choices you make when you post. This includes showing your listings and profile to other readers, and keeping backups.

This permission lasts as long as your content is on Chapta, and for a reasonable period afterwards while it clears our backups.

Promotion. We will not use a photograph you took, or your profile photo, in advertising or marketing outside Chapta unless you have given us separate permission — in the app, at the time, for that use.

Feedback. If you send us an idea for Chapta, we can use it without owing you anything.

11. Paid features

Chapta is free to use. There is nothing to buy inside Chapta, and we do not ask you for payment details.

If we introduce paid features in future, we will set out the terms before you can buy anything, and we will tell you before the change takes effect.

12. Suspension and removal

We may remove content, restrict features, suspend your account, or remove it permanently, if you break these terms or the Community Guidelines, or if we are required to by law.

When we do, we will tell you what rule we applied, unless telling you would be unlawful or would interfere with an investigation. You can appeal — the Community Guidelines explain how, and a person reads your appeal.

When an account is removed or deleted, you lose access to your listings, your messages and your ratings, and we cannot restore them. Keep your own copy of anything you want to keep.

Accounts nobody uses. If you do not use Chapta for two years, we may close your account. Where we have an email address for you, we will write to you first so you can sign in and keep it.

If your account is removed, or you delete it, sections 5, 7, 8, 9, 10, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18 and 20 survive.

13. Changes to Chapta

We may change, add to, suspend or discontinue any part of Chapta. We will give reasonable notice of a change that materially reduces what you get, unless we cannot — for example, for security or legal reasons.

14. Warranties

CHAPTA IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE", WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND.

TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, WE DISCLAIM ALL WARRANTIES, EXPRESS, IMPLIED AND STATUTORY, INCLUDING THE IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, TITLE AND NON-INFRINGEMENT.

WE MAKE NO WARRANTY THAT CHAPTA WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED, SECURE, OR ERROR-FREE, OR THAT ANY DEFECT WILL BE CORRECTED.

WE MAKE NO WARRANTY AS TO THE EXISTENCE, CONDITION, EDITION, AUTHENTICITY, OWNERSHIP, LEGALITY OR DELIVERY OF ANY BOOK, OR AS TO THE IDENTITY, CONDUCT, HONESTY OR TRUSTWORTHINESS OF ANY READER.

Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion of implied warranties, so some of the above may not apply to you.

15. Limitation of liability

TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, CHAPTA WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, EXEMPLARY OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR FOR ANY LOSS OF PROFITS, DATA, GOODWILL, OR BOOKS, ARISING OUT OF OR RELATING TO CHAPTA.

OUR TOTAL LIABILITY FOR ALL CLAIMS RELATING TO CHAPTA WILL NOT EXCEED THE GREATER OF (A) THE AMOUNT YOU PAID US IN THE TWELVE MONTHS BEFORE THE CLAIM AROSE, OR (B) ONE HUNDRED U.S. DOLLARS ($100).

NOTHING IN THESE TERMS EXCLUDES OR LIMITS OUR LIABILITY FOR DEATH OR PERSONAL INJURY CAUSED BY OUR NEGLIGENCE, FOR OUR GROSS NEGLIGENCE, FOR OUR WILLFUL MISCONDUCT, FOR OUR FRAUD OR FRAUDULENT MISREPRESENTATION, OR FOR ANY OTHER LIABILITY THAT CANNOT LAWFULLY BE EXCLUDED OR LIMITED.

16. Indemnity

If someone brings a claim against us because of something you did, you cover our costs. Specifically, you will indemnify Chapta against claims, damages and reasonable legal costs arising from: content you post; your breach of these terms or the Community Guidelines; your breach of law or of anyone else's rights; and your interactions, swaps and disputes with other readers.

We will notify you of any such claim, and may take over its defence. You may not settle a claim in a way that imposes any obligation on us without our written consent.

17. Resolving a dispute with us

If you have a problem with Chapta, please write to us first at support@chapta.space. Most things are quicker to fix that way, and we will try to resolve it with you.

If we cannot resolve it, either of us may bring a claim in court. Section 18 sets out which law applies and where. Either of us may instead bring a claim in small claims court.

18. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Delaware, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules. The state and federal courts located in New Castle County, Delaware have exclusive jurisdiction, subject to section 17 and to the small-claims carve-out.

Nothing in this section deprives you of the protection of any mandatory consumer law of the country where you live.

19. Changes to these terms

We may change these terms. If a change is material we will tell you in the app — and, where we have an email address for you, by email — at least 30 days before it takes effect, and we will ask you to accept the new version when you next open Chapta.

If you do not accept it, you can delete your account. Continuing to use Chapta after the effective date means you accept the new terms.

The date at the top of this page always tells you which version is current.

20. General

These terms, the Privacy Policy and the Community Guidelines are the whole agreement between us.

If any part of these terms is held unenforceable, the rest stays in force.

If we do not enforce something straight away, we have not given it up.

You may not transfer your rights under these terms. We may transfer ours to a company that acquires our business.

We are not liable for a failure caused by something outside our reasonable control.

These terms are between you and Chapta. They are not an agreement between you and another reader. Another reader cannot enforce these terms against you, and you cannot enforce them against another reader. What the two of you agree about a swap is yours to agree, and yours to keep.
